Exploring the Self Portrait

Over the last 6 weeks, I’ve been taking an online class with Jane Davies, Exploring the Self  Portrait.  One of the greatest challenges for me was to quit worrying about how I could never get the portrait to look like me and to let myself explore the techniques and concept of the self portrait.  Here are a sampling of portraits done over the course of the class.  Techniques include drawing, painting, collage.

Fascinating to see your various portraits-you are evolving by the day! I really like “Doodle Maven”.

I love them all! They look wonderful together.

  3. A courageous journey. The biggest challenge is not to be self-critical. All of them are fascinating.

GREAT to see these all together! Thanks so much for posting. You did fabulous work in the class, and I know the other students appreciated your input.

  5. You may not think these self-portraits look like you, but they say so much! The creativity, color sense, playfulness – all evident . I love the next-to-last one, and all of the full-body portraits crack me up, especially the one with the arms purposefully striding forward!! A great advertisement for this class!
